Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Its hard for me to choose a favorite. I enjoy tinkering with rifles, stocks, triggers, optics and even more with the loads. For me if I were choosing a favorite it would be my most accurate.... a 270 WSM with super close second to the 7mm SAUM.
As for suppressed firearms I like the .308 and the 300 blackout

It's a toss up between my .243 & .308 when I was younger I loved my .300 wsm but don't care much for the recoil anymore.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Sitting in a stand or on the fields, I love my 30-06.
Chose the 30-06 like many others because of it being able to hunt any game animal and the versatility of bullet size.
If I’m in the woods where shooting distance is limited, and/or still hunting, I love, love, love, my model 94 30-30. I have a Williams peep sight on her and no sling.
I just love carrying this rifle it is so light and balanced in my hands and just how it shoots and feels. It is quick and agile to get on target

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
6.5 grendel both in ar and bolt action platforms. Kills whatever I fell like hunting and does self/home defense just as good or better then any other ar round.
Plus my bolt action is good too 1000 on targets when I feel like playing out that far.
Ar grendel for packing in thick brush hunting
Bolt action Howa mini grendel for open area hunting depending on game and bullet type 600 or less yards.
Does everything I need and want done perfectly, without the extra recoil or expense of the more traditional magnum, super magnum, short magnum, super short magnum cartridge' s of yester year

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Maybe I'm a bit of an old-timer, but I like the good old 30-06. The .308 seems to be more popular these days.

I've killed a lot more deer with a .223 than I have with any other round. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I've been using a 7mmSTW the past few years, so I'll call it my favorite, for now. (162gr. A-Max's)

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
I have experienced some significant differences with calibers in a high powered rifle, differences that repeat themselves over and over.
For example, my Remington .260 in a mountain rifle is short, very light weight and I love it when busting huge swamps which are a lot of work. That being said, a 7mm-08 and the 260 are a far cry from a belted magnum... no comparison. They get the job done but I don't get the "Hammer Time" i get with a 7 mag... that's just the way it is. I know, I know... shot placement is a huge factor. but I have had buck and bear routinely run away a moderate distance before expiring with the lesser caliber.
Bring in the belted magnum... bucks and bear all died at the shot like they were hit over the head with a 20 pound sledge. All except one that was very poorly hit and my bad...
I will still take the smaller caliber as a matter of convenience- but when I'm putting the hammer down on a Big Canadian buck (DIY) and he drops like a ton of bricks on a 150 yard shot... you are sadly mistaken (my view) if you don't think it makes a difference.

That is the bullet my 7mm SAUM prefers too

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
I think my 7MM08 in a BLR is the perfect rifle for PA. It is short and light, flat out to 250yards with enough energy to drop them in their tracks. It's also not damaging a entire quarter at 30yards.
It's all fun and games till someone looses an eye..... then its just fun

Yes I know several guys that love it as well. Personally my favorite is a .243. Tried a couple other calibers but ended up coming back to it. Now in Ohio I bought a Ruger 450 Bushmaster, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
I have a rifle that I inherited that is a .257 Roberts... one of my grandfathers used to hand load it for predators and deer. I plan on using it one of these years.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Man, this is an old recycled post! I'm not sure if I ever commented on it or not, but just so everyone here is tracking...30-06 is the most deer and Nazi killingest round in man's history.
