October 1st Opener!!
Good luck to my fellow Michigan hunters with the October first opener tomorrow- and good luck to everyone that is opening tomorrow morning in other States as well. I will be hunting some very heavily pressured public land.
My forecast for tomorrow is SouthWest winds at 9 mph, with gusts to 19 mph. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 77 degrees, no chance of rain. Overnight lows will be in the low 50's.
I have selected a buck bedding area based on these conditions where I will be off the bedding area by about 100 yards. I have two different trails exiting the bedding area that come together within bow range of my tree. The SW wind will be cutting it close and milkweed fluff will be the final determining factor on whether or not I hunt the spot. Just outside the swamp the buck has maple leaves from young trees along with red and white oak acorns to feed on.
I have also selected a back-up stand based on these weather conditions- its always smart to have a plan B. If I have to go to plan C it will be a long day!
Good luck, fellow Beasts!!

Re: October 1st Opener!!
Thanks SB, good luck to you as well, I'm still up in the air on where I want to sit, I have a spot where an oak ridge meets a marsh found a single bed on the ridge and 6 beds along the transition in the marsh with a creek along the north end.. Thinking with the weather the way it is they might come for a drink... But then I've got about 20 other spots picked out all over the county so we'll see where I end up.... Good luck to all and most of all have a safe season!!

Re: October 1st Opener!!
Thanks Scott. I wish I was going. I have a decent public land buck I think I could kill, but I have to hunt him on the opener before other hunters come in and mess it up. Unfortunately I have been stuck in bed most of the time since last Wednesday with a back injury. I'm just starting to get around a little bit, but I have a little ways to go yet. It looks like I will be missing a trip up to Dead Stream swamp this weekend too. Was hoping to get ahold of G3's and run over to Benzie while I was up there too!

Re: October 1st Opener!!
Thanks and good luck to everybody. I'm not in Michigan, but Illinois and it opens in the morning also. I'm going to need all the luck I can get cause I haven't been able to find the first spot where I think I have a fairly good chance of even seeing a deer.
My hope is they are holed up in the standing corn on 3 sides of about a 1000 sq. acres of National Forest I hunt. Just going to hunt the white oaks in the morning and hope for the best. Few are falling here and there.
