Most of these guys are sitting on baitpiles in this area and how the deer relate to the bait, is very predictable, use that to your advantage. Once that tactic is mastered, you will kill 1-2 bucks every year that is full of someone elses bait.
Tony, I remember you and I discussing this very thing at Dan's... very crafty how you mastered this, my friend.

Yes Scott I remember the discussion. Some may consider this a little underhanded, only used this hunting in MI when dealing with the Masterbaiters we have in our state. Even brought back a few 5 gallon buckets of recycled bait out of different bucks, so some of the guys could put back on there baitpiles. Just seemed a gracious thing to do, being they were helping me out.

Re: 2012 portage hunt BWCAW
I hunt a few small suburban spots around Rockford cedar springs, and a few bigger spots like 80 acres if I get time during the week. But that's really not my type of hunting. I love to hunt near my cabin just south of irons (the big woods) keeps me sain till I can get back to u.p. hopefully the new a.p.r,s up there will allow for some better age class deer in the future.

Awesome camp pics - and congratulations on that big "big woods" buck. I've canoed, kayaked, hiked, dog-sledded, slept under the stars on below zero nights... up in the BWCAW a number of times. I hunt WNW of there in OhCanada, but it's the same turf. Except fresh cutovers that can change the game a little... Gotta love the big woods!
Those camp pics are too much to handle in mid-January...

Agreed.....the BWCAW and NWO are a throw back style of hunting, think more premium on woodsmanship than refined tactics. Found it a very addictive type of hunting, the more traveling hunts we do, find that it always pulls me back to these northern remote hunts. Those bigwoods are good for the soul.
And yes, have done several winter snow camping trips over the years. Have to do some things differently if the hunt was in January.
