Shaggy rubs

Unread postby publiclandhunter » Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:07 pm

For years I used to always bring my camera with me while out scouting and lately I have stopped and need to start doing it again. While in the woods I would take pics of tracks, scrapes, trails, trees for stands and rubs. I love those trees as big around as your thigh that look like a cheese-grater was used on them......I refer to them as shaggy rubs! If you have some cool pics of rubs you have found, post them here and give us the story on the buck or where you found them.

I will be dropping a few of my best "shaggy-rub" pics here for your viewing pleasure.

Looking pretty shaggy there, Zap. 8-) I really like that last pic of Dan's, where the tree is almost cut in half.

I always take a camera with me now, they are so light and small. It's nice to refer to the pics later on too, they help jog the memory and scouting journal. Last year I picked up a minicam that fits in my pants pocket and weighs next to nothing- it takes great stills and video.

Cool pic's... Did any of you guys ever notice the rubs that one buck makes over the years and how each year the new rub is a little higher as the buck matures?
This rub that AC posted rminded me of that...

yep, definitely like those trees that are rubbed over the course of a number of years. If you look closely at this one, you can see the new over rub that is definitely higher- his tines also caught the smaller tree behind the main rub:

It is also interesting how the same tree gets rubbed for several generations of bucks. These signpost rubs can be a great location in late October if they are adjacent to a known bedding area. I often see these where several mature bucks cross paths in a funnel area.

These pics get me excited!
