I have half'a brown grocery bag left over from last year. Unfortunately I opened about half those pods and dumped the contents into the bag, getting rid of the papery pod itself. I won't do that again.

From now on I will harvest pods each year for use the next year, harvesting them when they first open. They dry great when kept in a paper grocery bag in the garage attic.

x2 or in a cardboard box.

I had a lifetime supply till my wife decided to clean up and threw my stash away.

Luckily I see them everywhere in my area, have to go pick some soon.

My first batch that I did for my own supply I left in a paper bag on my truck dash for 2-3 weeks and they dried perfectly. The second batch I did for extra and I stuck in a hole covered cardboard box in my basement for two weeks. When I went to open this box to send some pods to fellow Beast members, all the pods were soggy and mold covered. Something to keep in mind for guys who haven't done this before.

I have found that the brown bag makes them mold, I pick them and let them sit a few days then I take my two thumbs right were the seam is and pop it open real wide and just lay them out in a window siil or on a table ad in a few days the inside is dry and the po will still be green and I just pop the inside out and put into a bag

Thanks for whoever posted this idea. Made this up last night. Sure is handy. Been playing with the silks and watching how it reacts around big trees, houses, hills, openings etc.

I pick pods and put them in a closed onion bag and hang them in my pole barn for a year. I started this by having a lot of extra pods one year. The fluff ends up being so dry and light after a year, it rides air currents like magic. Great stuff. If you end up with more than you need, there's no sense in wasting it.

You can speed up the drying process with a dehydrator. Lay them on the rack and put a piece of screen over them. No mold
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

X2

The ones I have that are over a year old float the best. The drier the better.

Not only an informative thread but also hilarious. I've used cattail but not milkweed. Does anyone know how they compare?

Milkweed is much lighter and floats in the air much better.
