How do you get your bow up to you in the stand ?

Unread postby dreaming bucks » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:50 am

Just curious how you guys do it ?
Do you just put a rope or string of some sort in your pocket, and when you go up the tree, hook it up to the bow on the ground first, and then climb the tree ?

I have heard of guys that just stick their arm through the bow and climb the tree that way....

I'm kind of new to being mobile, so I'm not sure how most guys do it.... When I use to sit in my permanent stands, I would just have a string hanging down at each one, but now that I'm going mobile, I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to do it ?

On a side note, I know a guy that was up in tree last year, he pulled the bow up to him, when he went to take the string off, it was kind of lodged in around the cam, he gave the pull rope a big yank to dislodge it, and it pulled the cable right off the cam, and it sliced the end of his finger off. Probably lost about a half of an inch........ Youch ! He had gloves on, so he didn't know how bad it was until he pulled his gloves off..... So much for hunting that day....

30 foot 1/8 camo cord with small plastic ( quieter than metal ) clip on one end. Fits nicely in a pocket on my hunter safety vest.

30' rope tied to the seat of the stand. Plastic hook on it and loop the rope through the hole in the cam and back attached to the rope. That way I don't have to bend over to pull the bow up if it was attached to the base and don't have to worry about the rope getting in the way when climbing

30' rope here. I dropped my bow once and tried using the "the force" but found the rope far more useful.

x3 they are cheap at gander and walmart...definitely worth it, I used to carry my bow up with me as I climbed but the chance of being all set up and having the cam of your bow hit a climbing step on the way up or worse knocking the sight out of whack as your climb and blowing the shot on a deer is not worth it to me. I hate to put all the effort into something, anything really, and cutting one corner and blowing it all.
