Is this deer 2.5 or 3.5yo?
I never thought I would make a thread asking this stupid and worn out question, but Im curious on this one.
The velvet pics are from last season when I thought he was a 3.5yo clean 6 pointer. This year he grew into an 8 point with what I think is decent mass but I know he wont score worth a darn at all.
If he is 4.5yo right now I might try and move in on him, but if he is a 3.5yo ill stay out of the area and hope he makes it another year.

3.5 would be my guess.

Looks older than 2.5 for sure.

Looks like he is old enough for killing to me.
If you want him go get him, dont worrie about his age, if you want to let him grow. Let him grow
But yes he isn't over 3.5 years, barely 3 years old from what I'm seeing.

I’m not saying I’m an expert, and I’m going on what I’ve hunted in two states, but that buck is probably 4.5 this year. A 2.5-3.5 will be long legged and have a long neck. A 4.5+ will have belly sag, shorter nose and bigger shoulders. This buck has the latter, IMO.

Here is a 2.5/3.5 in NW WI. Notice the long legs and other characteristics I mentioned.

I’d guess 3.5. Looks to have a beefy build and the mass suggests to me 3.5. Don’t see many 2.5’s that have mass. Usually a little stringy.
3.5 based on the last year photo. My buck looked like a similar build and I am saying he was 3.5 based on weight compared to other 2.5’s I’ve shot.

Depends on where/what State he lives in?
