You are spot on to what I experienced over the past week or two (SE Wis). Had awesome action on cut beans and cut corn fields. It was all or nothing, like you say. But once the snow got too deep......GHOST TOWN... Not a track anywhere. It was like night and day as to how quickly things can change . I then found the deer would travel well over a mile to get to both public and private standing corn. Made total sense.
Tracking in the snow is very enjoyable...almost criminal !!!
