All on a new public spot. This afternoon I went into a general area I have hunted, but a new spot in it I found last year late season. 5 minutes before close, a doe fawn came out, way to small to take, 5 minutes after close, 2 does came thru, one huge one. Bow was lowered, and I was packing up. Not to bad for an opener. I do have to say, it was very wet this morning, the dew was so heavy I got soaked going in. This afternoon, the mosquitoes where pretty bad as well. Good thing for a head net. Thermo cell wouldn’t keep up.

2 minutes cost me a giant one time. Made a move and was just getting set and in comes a pile of does with a brute. Long story short i had a big stare down w the does at 20 and the big guy at 35 from the ground. Never got a clear shot at him. Huge deer w split g2s but wow the fun.

I’m really excited for tonight’s sit!
I’m 150 yards from an oak island where I killed my first archery deer two years ago on day two of the season (like today). He was a 13 point 2.5 year old.
I’ve spent about 10 minutes glassing and have already spotted a big doe.
The wind will be cutting it close but it should be just off enough. The island is shaped like a backwards L. With a south wind, I’ll be setup tight to the edge on the bottom of the L with the wind blowing parallel to the point. I’m praying there is no swirling as the wind cuts over and around the island.

Wind is wrong again for my #1 buck.

Did some scouting this morning and just when I decided nothing was back there, I find an active scrape and two huge fresh rubs. They’re waist to chest high.

Only problem is I laid some scent down where I don’t want it!! I don’t know this spot and well as I’d like and it caught me off guard. I was closer to suspected bedding than I thought.

I was told that a monster buck made it through the season at this particular spot. Gotta be him.

I know it’s probably low odds but I don’t think anyone else has hunted him yet, and I want to try for him since my scent is in there already.

I could set up on the upwind side of the trail and kill him before he reaches my scent trail AND scent stream, but if he’s not alone I’m screwed.

If I hadn’t walked on the trail for 10-15 yards the set up would be absolutely perfect. All I can do is my best so here goes nothing!

It's hot and blowing like crazy tonight. I wanted to hunt a spot I've scouted several times the wind is good, but my daughter wants to go really bad. So I'm going to take her tonight to a spot close to home, where I've seen a doe on a drainage ditch with this same wind direction. Not expecting to see much but we'll tuck into a corn field on the opposite side of the drainage ditch.

Out with my daughter on her first bow hunt. Hot here, but a nice steady SSE breeze. Sitting in a patch of oaks that are occasionally dropping. Hopefully something shows.

Good luck JM. Crossed the river and helped drag out a beast this morning.

Haven't even gotten back to my spot yet. Headed to an island way back in a thick nasty swamp. It's hot and I'm getting frustrated so break time it is. Hope I at least see something because the walk out tonight is going to be brutal

Neil, looks like fun. I plan on getting my youngest out in the next few weeks for her first time as well. She just doesn’t want to deal with all the bugs yet. Lol. Can’t wait for our first heavy frost.

Finally setup, having a rough hunt, made way more noise than I would have liked, then I dropped my quiver and had to climb down and get it  I'm just going to enjoy my night and laugh off the mistakes.

We have a good breeze and the thermacells running so no mosquitoes. Not bad temps with the breeze and the shade.

Good luck to your daughter this season.
