Perfectly still tonight. Usually not a recipe for success in my book but a gorgeous sit anyhow.

Nothing came out. I decided that I had to go see if anything had been bedding there recently. If I blew the spot, oh well. I needed to know if that deer was there or if he is there in a different part of the season. The wind was right, cover was right, but to my surprise no fresh bed. I am now convinced this is a rut spot. Really thick nasty tangle behind him, but couldn’t see too far ahead. I remember in spring you could see to the bottom of the hill. I’m glad to have educated myself more on the spot whether it meant blowing it or not.
There’s no way to know without a shadow of a doubt that he won’t smell you were in there, but if he isn’t around and he doesn’t show for another week or more, he will have NO idea you were in there.
Nice work on getting aggressive and trying to figure it out! Valuable intel right there.
Appreciate it! I just really thought if I don’t take the gamble I will never know for sure. I really like the scouting in season, although I understand you will blow spots like that. To have the insight and knowledge for next year or late this season is a win in my book.

Well tonight was a bust for seeing deer got blown at right at the end of shooting light, but may have stumbled on a parking area buck bedding area on my way in trying to come in a way I suspected a mature buck wouldn't be keeping tabs on.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Around 6:35 I heard deer in the cattails. Sounded like they were about 15 yards to my right. They got to the edge of the cattails and stopped. No sound for 10 minutes or so. At 6:45 I passed a 2 yo 8 pointer at 25 yards. I thought I was hearing another deer and was just waiting for mister big to step out. 10 minutes later a doe was browsing towards me at about 7 yards. She angled off and that was it for the night.
Fun hunt.
Fun hunt.

Slow tonight for me.
Saw 5 doe
Set up twice.
First set I couldn’t see anything.
Second was better.
Movement was late and the wind was everywhere after 5pm for me.
It felt great being back in a tree

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Was hunting a spot close to home tonight. Crossed the creek which always looks really deep but was only knee deep tonight. Set up on the ground for simplicity worked well. Had bedding to the west of me and wind out of the north.
Last year around the same time of year I bumped at least one buck, might have been two, out about 50 yards from where I set up.
Watched a little red squirrel chew on a black walnut. Had the owls calling back and forth at each other. Had a big flock of crows going nuts nearby. Lots of ducks.
Ended up with a doe and fawn coming in. Fawn was about 10 yards. Doe came into about 20. I am almost certain I heard another deer in the bedding right around dusk but could have been coons or something else.

I ended up not seeing the buck I was after last night. I did see one big doe by herself. Later on I had two fawns walk underneath me and that was it. The wind might've got me before the hunt even started, but I doubt it. I think the buck has moved locations based on the camera that I pulled last night on my way out. I'll be after him again tomorrow evening.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Our season doesn't open till Saturday.
I spent my day scouting areas I don't plan to hunt.
I found my first rub of the year here in Tn.
Looks like it was made by a good buck.
I checked some acorn flats all were still bright green.
Did find a mature buck bedding area I had never found before. Definitely going to throw a November sit at it.
Covered probably 500 acres today .
Did see 2 does.

Evening sit. Stormed earlier, so I was hoping it would cause the deer to move around now. Saw a couple squirrels, so there may be hope. Not likely, because the wind is swirling. Luckily the weather's pretty awesome.

Good luck to everyone out.
I've got bedding 100+ yards to my east, never hunted here so I'm not sure when it is used. Exit trail is 20 yards to my right. Should be interesting.

Re: Live from the field 2021-2022
Well rushed out to a spot after work again. I got in as quite as I could but it was tough with it being dead silent. Just got to a cluster of trees I was going to use as a blind, put my bow down to start clearing lanes and an unknown deer jumped about 20 yards from me and started blowing like crazy. Too thick between us to see. Not sure if I should stick with the plan or or scout.
