It happens. Kill a buck.

That's the plan! Definitely nice being in the shade. Hope you get one with your daughter tonight!

Fawn bleated and came running right at me while setting up my blind. She must have been bedded very close by and thought I was mama. I was standing in the middle of a bush and she got as close as 10 feet.

But… I’m dealing with a swirling wind and she smelled me

If these gusts stop at dark I should be ok. If not, my chances aren’t good.

Brutally hot today and my water spots are all dry so throwing a hunt at the back yard. Actually found a big fresh rub back here so you never know. One nice 8 and two smaller tens in the area but the kids pound the land pretty hard.

Same move for me tonight. Sitting a quick one on the food plot behind the house. Giant fresh track I walked by so there must be one around. I usually have a lot of good bucks at home but this year has been doe and fawn central.

Got my hat handed to me tonight. Hot... I think my shirt weighed more than a Beast stand when I was done. A mile plus slog through a veritable jungle. I was after a particular buck, but I didn't know exactly where he was would be bedded on this wind. I have a real good idea on a couple different winds, but not that one. I went to where my best guess was and it turned out to be a terrible guess. The heat, endless intertwined deadfalls amd super long grass just whooped me. Dragging one out of there would have been a mega-grind.

Well o had the most action packed hunt I've had in 10 years of living in the Bermuda triangle... I expected to only see a doe, but with my 9 year old daughter by my side we stalked into 40 yards of a group of 3 bucks, 2 1.5 year olds and a 2.5 year old. We got to watch them fight and push each other around for 15 mins the whole time we're standing in a corn field only 2 rows deep. I'll share the rest of the story tomorrow... but I think she videoed most of it. Not sure the quality though, but who cares.

Got one tonight, isolated pond in the middle of corn, had my daughter with me, it was great. Michigan early doe on private land hunt. My brother shot 2 at the same spot yesterday, so I just thought what the heck take my daughter out, it’s easy access and drag so made for a fun hunt. She was the bigger of the 2 that came in.

Congrats mipubbucks!

Took me just short of an hour to get out of there. “Uff-da” is a proper Minnesotan response to that.

Ended up seeing either 4 or 5 does and fawns. All (except the super early fawn) were moving in the last 10 minutes of light. Closest doe was about 80 yards.

I kept waiting for that monster to round the corner…

Good stuff mipubbucks!

Hunted edge of swamp tonight after a solid 5x5 tonight where I’ve seen him in summer come out. Does and fawns and spike buck out early tonight. One eventually got down wind and started snorting. 30 minutes later she comes back upwind looking for me and started snorting again at the heavy cover where she came out of and where the 5x5 comes out. Tough hunting the lowland when winds get light.. Will be back in or near the swamp this week

Congrats mipubbucks!

I was correct, brutal coming out and didn't even see a deer.
I took the next two days off so I'm going to take advantage and scout some new spots. The goal for tomorrow may be getting some meat for the freezer I'm all out of summer sausage.

First hunt of the year for me. Found a good looking spot on Onx, got there and looked totally different in person. Did not work at all how I planned so I ended up scouting and exploring around looking for sign.

Finding minimal sign I end up driving to another spot down the road, and do the same thing. Cannot find a decent spot with any sign to set up on.

Decide to drive to get a 3rd spot and leave the stand in the car. Scouting and still hunting my way through thick brush and woods. Bump a smaller 8 pointer buck about 60 yards from the car. Settle into a spot in the woods, get impatient after 20 minuted and decide to check it out deeper. After I moved 50 yards I bumped a doe with a fawn that was headed my direction.

Overall at least I got some intel and seen some deer for next time. My issue is that it’s hard for me to apply what I learn and read about Beast tactics, and apply it into real life situations. I always end up scouting further looking for better sign and a better place to setup. Got a lot to learn but I’ll keep trying!

I’m hunting the drop tine tonight. It’s raining off and on all day, and the temps are 24 degrees colder than yesterday. If that doesn’t get him in there in daylight, I don’t know what will.
