DIY Iowa Public Fall 2021
Who all is going to hunt Iowa in 2020 or 2021? I am looking at having 4 points in 2021 and will be doing a solo public land DIY trip. I would love to get any info from one of you guys who is on a different year cycle than I am for getting a tag there or anyone else to share camp with. Would be nice to have someone help drag one out and share stories with at the end of the day. I am planning on the Sedan Bottoms area and the SW part of Rathbun.

I currently have 3 points and will try for a kill tag this year in zone 4. I've recently heard that it may take at least 5 points now to draw an archery tag in 4 but have only heard things. Also heard they are increasing the points up to 90 dollars, but again only just hearing things.

I also have 3 points right now, not sure if I will try and draw this year. Seems to me like there is less public in Iowa relative to the surrounding states, am I just not looking hard enough?

I also have 3 points, so will have 4 going into this fall. You are correct in your research, IA doesn't have as much public lands as other states.

All the draw results that I saw from this past year showed that 4 points was pretty close to 100% in all zones. Hopefully the point price doesn't go up!

I have hunted Iowa since the 80's... I will mince no words, I have no heros, since the Wensels and other took over great areas, and than TV hunting came of age, they exed a lot of regular hard hunters out.... Money talks and BS walks.... NOw I draw about every 2 years, but I am away from all the BS.....But since I am over 70 and things are changing, I will give a young hunter a piece of advice,,, Go find it on your own,,, but if I were you, I would look over the Iowa river......................... good luck Most of the Iowa heros are full of s...

Stupid low percentage of something like 3% public. There is a publication, think it is the Iowa Sportsman's Atlas, that does a good job of showing all hunting land.

Re: DIY Iowa Public Fall 2021
I have 4 points and hoping to draw zone 5 in 2020. Been scouting public down there for the last few months. Some good, some bad. Seems to get just as much pressure during the bow season as SW WI and SE MN. Just more bucks and bigger.
