Beast sticks -- initial review

WOW. These things are incredible. Dan, you set the new bar for climbing sticks.

Quality, tolerances, weight, simplicity of design, no noise or moving parts. They BITE the tree hard too with those sharp teeth.

these things are in a class of their own.

I have used LW, Hawk, XOP, Muddy, and others. None compare. I will update with some more use. I just got them together and on a tree this evening.

I only bought 3 but will probably need another at some point. I plan to use them mostly in hedge rows and small trees in overlooked areas on the public ground (where a climber has no suitable trees). Many times won't be above 10-12' with heavy back cover and limbs around me for cover.

I have zero complaints about my lonewolf set up
Sticks work perfect theres no tree I can't get it in stand works perfect...Give me a reason to spend the money cause id love to,I just cant justify it

I’ve got a squeaky step on one of my LW sticks. It’s intermittent and drives me nuts. Also need to tighten up the bolts.

IMO the steps are too close together and aren’t efficient weight wise. That’s why some people mod them and cut them down. Beast sticks are spaced perfect.

no issues with 22 inch gap, I did not even notice it. I love the double side step design though. The LW single step drove me nuts.

You will also get deformation in the LW step where it hits the bolt head eventually, as well as the steps and tree brackets loosen up occasionally. Nothing wrong with LW sticks, I used them for years.

I like how the Beast sticks bite into the tree, no moving parts and of course the double step. They are pricy, but they are also high quality.

I have and use lone wolf sticks. I seriously considered getting some beast sticks when the last batch came out. I don’t like to switch up equipment mid season but I could see doing it down the road. Lone wolf sticks are good but beast sticks appear superior. Here’s some significant differences I see. The two sided step allows you to space out the sticks further and be more stable while doing it versus being staggered with your feet at different heights. The beast sticks are shorter and more compact, their less likely to catch on things while walking through the woods. Easier to hang. Also being shorter the bottom should be more snug to the tree. Everyone talks about how the beast sticks bite the tree, lone wolf sticks slide down the tree until there’s tension. Late season with cold toes and bulky boots I don’t like how close your foot gets to the trunk of the tree. It appears the beast stick steps are further from the base of tree than lone wolf. This also is beneficial if you use aiders. One last thing I see is the no moving parts. I’m constantly squaring up the brackets while climbing. I have a buddy that is currently building himself a set of sticks similar to Beast sticks; 3/16 inch thick aluminum, lone wolf brackets, and a stainless steel washer as the versa button. He’s going to be into each stick for $35. There is some additional value and benefits that I see in the beast sticks versus lone wolf sticks.

Picked up one more stick on this last run. Compared to the first ones that came out I would say the overall quality and finish has greatly improved. Matte finish instead of gloss and the sharp edges on one side of standoffs has been filed down. Little things that add up to a quality stick that I feel is a vast improvement over the lone wolf or xop sticks.

I have used LW sticks for 10+ years, now getting older and having had back surgery keeping feet at different heights while setting new stick and stand is much harder. So I put a double step in the middle LW step.

I do like the way HB sticks stack as I see the videos with dan and how he has 5 sticks neatly packed tight to his stand. If they stand off farther that would be a bonus too.


The knock on LW sticks that the feet move is not a knock for me. It has been great when a knot in the tree is right where you need the stick to go and you can get around it by twisting the feet.

My 4 LW stick weigh 11lbs 4 oz for four sticks with straps.


Just got a new job today which pays much better, I may have to get in on the next batch of HB sticks... That will be $400. I know that there is nothing like confidence in your equipment.

When I got the millennium t100 hang on I looked forward to all day sits it is so comfortable.

Received mine today as well! The chamfered edge on the standoff is genius. I was worried with how sharp the standoffs are they wouldn't slide and shift the weight to the strap in those instances you don't get the stick fully set. Never noticed the chamfer till I held them in my hand. Would've been a great trick for my lone wolfs. Now gotta decide if I'm cutting out all the holes in my stealth strips or leave them covered

Lol I thought the whole time they were supposed to pivot so I can get them in nasty trees!!!
