Re: Northeast guys
Allegheny National Forest in NW Pennsylvania fits your bill. Some absolutely slobs killed from there every season.
Oh...and if you come during the archery bear season.....a bear tag could be a worthy add-on as the area has a great bear population.

Re: Northeast guys
For NY, check out this interactive map, click "Hunting on DEC Managed Land" on the filters. Then you can click on the hunter icon for more info on each area.
https://gisservices.dec.ny.gov/gis/dil/
You can get statistics on bucks taken per square mile from the 2018 deer report here:

Check out "wild at heart outdoors" on YouTube for a taste of the Allegheny National Forest. They have a couple great videos and kills bucks and a bear.

I don’t blame you either..... but...
The license is pretty reasonable for non-residents.
The license is a sporting license so it is good for the gun seasons too.
It comes with two buck tags.
An archery stamp ($5.00) is required for the archery season.
A primitive firearm stamp ($5.00) is required for muzzleloader.
The archery season opens on the 21st.
If you get a license you might as well get a bear permit. The season overlaps and the tag is $5.00
All told it’s a bargain.

Re: Northeast guys
NY guys, what places have decent public land outside of the 8X neighborhood? I mostly hunt private down that way, but it could be fun to hit some public land in other parts of the state, especially as more people start hunting the private land I’m on.

For big deer or bear western mass. For deer Eastern Mass for sure.
Lots of deer in the East plus you can still probably get an OTC doe permit or two for some of the eastern zones.
Far fewer deer in western Mass but they are bigger. Lots of public land in western Mass but it’s old growth forest and swamp so far less deer.
It all depends on what you are looking for out of your hunt.

Re: Northeast guys
Problem with Pa is that you can't hunt on Sundays. Makes it harder for a weekend trip
Congrats on being tagged out already.

No Sunday hunting in MA either.
Connecticut has Sunday hunting but it is archery only private land only.
