I abhor slicks and they are great. Montecs are great too. You’re splitting hairs between the two

Re: Montec CS
Cant speak for the montec's with firsthand experience, but I have been very happy with the ST standards. They are crazy sharp, and for me, required no tuning. Before I shot ST's, I was that guy who would switch heads every year or so, cant ever see myself switching away from them. Shot four deer with them now, and will use them for elk when I go out west.

Re: Montec CS
I’ve killed a lot of deer with a G5 montec! They always fly like a field tip and penetrate well. I have had a few that were junked after I killed a deer and hit bone but other than that they’re a good head!

Re: Montec CS
G5 Montecs are some of the strongest broadheads on the market and they can be re-sharpened. I have shot several deer through the shoulder with them. The down side is they do not leave a good blood trail compared to mechanical blades like rage or others. The other nice thing about Montecs is they seem to tune pretty easy for a fixed blade. My favorite fixed blade for blood trails is the Muzzy MX4 not even sure if they are manufactured anymore. They were much more picky with tuning though. Anyways just my 2 cents.

Re: Montec CS
The Born and Raised guy just did an accuracy and toughness test on a ton of fixed blade broadheads. i suggest going and watching that before deciding.

Re: Montec CS
I've never been one to follow the crowd and when I find something that works, I don't change it unless there has been a major improvement in design. So I've been using Montecs since they came out. My Son uses Montec CS's. The only difference I see is the CS are easier to sharp (duh) and like all carbon steel, they rust.

If you are going that route I would suggest checking out some VPA terminators. Super strong super easy to sharpen. Stupid accurate. The make vented and non vented. Machined from a solid piece of steel. very similar to a montec just a lot better for the same money.

Solid, dependable head that has been responsible for killing thousands upon thousands of game animals. Fly very well and often with field points. Much sharper out of the box than they used to be. Blood trails can occasionally be iffy though.

I have had good results with both. I would say the montecs are sturdier blades will break on slick tricks

x2 on the VPAs. They can take on steel barrels where as a the G5s were damaged on the same barrel!

Re: Montec CS
I always shot slick trick standards, like the fact I can replace the blades.
It's all fun and games till someone looses an eye..... then its just fun

Re: Montec CS
I'm definitely not a fan of Montec CS. Not strong for a one piece, poor blood trail for me and didn't sharpen near as good as other broadheads. I have been very impressed with QAD exodus and Magnus Ser Razor broadheads, they are both stronger, sharper and fly just as good or better.

Re: Montec CS
I had no luck getting montecs sharp. I like slick trick, and I was proud that they were made in Arkansas, at least to start with. Not anymore though. Now I use allen brand fixed blades from walmart. 5.97 for a three pack, and they cut nice big holes. one and done. If I see the coyote or other trash game, I dont mind shooting. I used to hate spending the 10-15 bucks per broadhead on trash game. I am a lot happier now.
