Big bucks from public land
Hi guys I have a favor to ask.
For quite a few years I have been writing the DIY public land column in each issue of North American Whitetail magazine. The last couple years I have been featuring bigger bucks that have been taken on public land across the US. Right now I'm running low on stories so I thought I would appeal to you all and see if you know of a buck that might be a good candidate.
These do not have to be giants, they just need to be above average bucks taken from public land with a story behind them. For example a 150 taken with a bow in PA might qualify, while that same buck taken in IA, KS or WI, might not. B&C bucks from public land anywhere make the grade, even 160's from big buck states would work if there's some history behind the deer and the hunt for the deer. You get the idea. They need to be taken in the last 2-3 years.
If you have knowledge of a deer that might fit or you've shot one, please PM me information on the deer and the hunter and I will start a dialog with them (or you maybe?). or you can contact me at eblast (a) bucksbullsbears (dot) com
Thanks!

If it was me, I would contact Andy May and have him do an article. Seriously, the guy is a working class dude (teacher I believe) with limited time and yet knocks down great bucks, in and out of state, on public every year. I would buy his book.

Here is one from PA from last season. Probably not the best overall "hunting" story but could be a great article about a great veteran killing a giant buck in probably one of the hardest places to hunt in pa. https://www.pgc.pa.gov/InformationResou ... khouse.pdf

+1
The dude's resume is impressive, as is all he puts into preparation and attention to detail. Check out the Wired to Hunt podcast for episodes he's been featured in. If you ain't impressed, you ain't got a pulse.

Nice buck but it was killed on a lease not on public so that wouldn't work. Loved the story though.

Anyone have any pics of bucks he's killed on public in the last 2-3 years? Might be a story in one of them.

There is an endless supply of stories here at the Beast. I would suggest checking out the entry’s in the Buck Contest from recent years. I’m sure you can find plenty of great stories worth re-telling among them.

Re: Big bucks from public land
If it’s just inches you seek, I fear you’re missing the real takeaway here.
Killing a mature buck on public land takes serious woodsmenship, and many of us take pride in that. The inches of antler are merely a by-product.
If this means anything to you, I’d rather read an article covering a blue-collar hunter that consistently kills mature deer on pressured grounds, than some guy that lucked into a “Booner”.
Best of luck to you.

I'd suggest just going through the Kill Zone sub-forum and picking out what you like, then contacting the individual members. That way you can parse it yourself and determine what meets the standard you're after.
