I drive the interstate every day and by the amount of roadkill during peak rut it’s obviously not a barrier in any way. I think the mature bucks are a little smarter but the 1-2 year olds tend to die young.

I agree with everybody! I notice movement crossing the road in the night time more though here in ky. The roads have way more traffic in daytime! They tend to know this and use the cover of darkness!
