Will mature bucks favor economy of movement?

Unread postby mheichelbech » Wed Mar 20, 2019 8:57 am

All things being equal, I.e., pressure, thickness of cover, food access, etc. Do you think a mature buck, especially older ones, would favor bedding on a ridge point in which he could switch sides with the wind by moving only 100 yards from one side to the other versus another location in which he had to move quite a bit further with a wind switch?

Some may take chances during rut.
Majority will air towards a safehaven

My guess is that it really depends on time of day; wind speed/consistency; and openness of view.

My observations have been they do not go far based on only a wind switch.
