I was apprehensive about until I started doing it, and then my lights get smaller and smaller. I do conceal carry always in the woods when archery hunting (where legal). More for the two legged critter than the four. We are known for meth labs in the area.

Whatever it takes haha

Could be 10 minutes or 2 hours. Average is around 45-1 hour, though.

Even if I have a light I still won’t see submerged cypress knees and such

Those sound like a rough hazard to walk around.
You don't have to be the best, just do your best.

Awesome point here about the demands of the solo hunter and when opportunities come. I know I have spent 1.5 hr walking in a.m. to make sure I have the correct tree & lanes are good (public blind sits) to maximize the 1st 30 minutes of daylight. Boy I am glad I get in early and during dark b/c having it a chance at one (esp on blind 1st time sits) is great! But also dark is your best cover - it will separate you from alot of the other guys running around on public land.

I truely believe to be a solid hunter, you have to embrace being in the dark for at least 1/3 of you total hunting time. If you're not comfortable, then you're going to miss alot of prime hunting time.

I cant tell you how many times I see guys, walking out of the woods, with their stand on backs 15-30 minutes before the closing bell.
