There's no comparison between saddle hunting and stand hunting. I used to stand hunt. Now I'm saddle hunting with ring of steps but fixn to buy the predator platform. Saddle hunting blows away treestand hunting. U can hide behind the tree and shoot 360 around the tree. And it's the lighest setup you will find. And it's 100% safe. Honestly don't know why more hunters don't try it. It's the ultimate BEAST hunting.

Also interested in hearing from guys who have gone from sit-drags to mantis... was it worth it?

I’ll add my ten cents. I’ve been using an original greens tree saddle for about twelve years, as well as a lone wolf assault.

To this day I still use both. I quit using the saddle for two years when I started bed hunting because I couldn’t figure out a quiet way to setup a ring of steps. Then comes the predator platform and I picked it back up again this year.

I use the saddle when I have long walks because it does significantly lighten the load for the walk in. I use 3 muddy sticks with some hand tied two step aiders with both my lone wolf and the saddle.

My opinion:
Lone wolf pros:
Comfort (I stand a majority of my time in the tree)
Shot accuracy (I torque the bow a little more in the saddle)

Cons:
Weight
Noise on the walk in (the width of the stand causes it to brush against some things when your walking in that the saddle does not) also it’s aluminum so it’s louder than cloth when your sneaking in tight to a bed.

Saddle pros:
Weight
Shooting 360 around the tree
Quiet on the walk in.

Cons:
Accuracy at distance
Comfort (hip pinch after long hours)

If I had to choose one which thankfully I don’t, but I would pick the saddle.

My ultimate setup would be one of the new saddles (never tried them so take this with a grain of salt) tetherd or aero hunter, predator platform, and 3 beast sticks (never tried these either, but the look like the better version of my muddys) with two step aiders on each stick.

To me it's not that different. It's honestly getting over the perceived learning curve. I shoot better from it and am more comfortable. The only real learning curve in my opinion is the height to set you tether etc...this will impact your comfort. Once that's dialed you're good to go!

Thanks for checking it out. I'll be 100% this regardless of private or public.

I just did another saddle podcast. Greg actually interviews me in this one since I was a rookie this year to see how I adapted . It may be helpful for those considering.

And a new one coming this week on climbing methods, if interested.

After dan is done with his stand I wish he would make a saddle platform similar in size to the predator but CNC/water jet. That thing would weight like 1-2lbs
