onx vs basemap
Im thinking about getting the onx app but it would be $100 / year. I found an app called basemap. it seems like a great app for $30/year.
suggestions? thoughts?

Re: onx vs basemap
While I have no experience with Basemap, OnX has been jam up for me.
You can share waypoints with friends extremely easily, has sat, hybrid & topo maps. Public and private property lines that are very accurate and most impressive in my opinion was that I’ve only had 1 waypoint pin get “bounced” from poor signal... Where in years past I’d mark a bed, kill tree, whatever and come to find out it got marked in a totally different area.
OnX also syncs with my iPad and computer so when I get back to the house, it’s on all 3 devices which makes scouting from home convenient

Re: onx vs basemap
I know nothing of basemap, so my opinion would be bias. I can tell you a lot of people have discount codes for OnX. The hunting public is one of them. You'll have to watch one of their videos to get the code. They put one out recently about scouting, worth checking out.
It's not the destination, it's the journey getting there!

Re: onx vs basemap
I have no experience with basemap, but I have been using onx. I really like it so far. My favorite part of it is the offline use. When I'm at home I just download the area map that I want, then when I get to that place I can just go offline and still use the map if I don't have signal. I thought that it would be a real inconvenience using it like that, but it's really easy and works like a charm. As far as the waypoints and accuracy, I haven't had any issues yet. I also really like the fact that I can use my phone in the field and go back and see everything I marked on the desktop.

I don’t know anything about base maps but I have been happy with on x. ON X was taking 20% off a short while back if you use The Hunting Public promo code THP.

Not sure if you are wanting it for property lines or not, but Gaia GPS is $20 and has their own maps along with usgs topo’s. Seems to be super accurate. You can track routes and easily mark waypoints. With the paid version you can download maps for offline use.

Re: onx vs basemap
I have both a garmin GPS and the yearly subscription to Onx maps. I like Onx because it is convenient, syncs with my computer and is super easy to use, even with no cell signal. You can see parcels of private and public with it. Plus, you can load onx onto google earth maps just by exporting the .kml file.
I have never used basemap so I cannot comment on that.

Are the OnX maps $100 per state, or is that nation wide?

Re: onx vs basemap
I can't imagine anything better than onX at any price. Completely worth it, but yeah use one of many discount codes for your first year.
Crankn101, the $100 is for all 50 states. A single state is $30 regular price.

Re: onx vs basemap
Check out the Gaia app. It’s another GPS app with a good deal of features. It can show property lines of public ground, but it won’t show owner information on private.

Another vote for onx. Been using it for years and it’s a great app. They seem to have most of the bugs worked out as mentioned above.

You have to call them. I posted about it a few months ago. An onx worker and I were bullshitting at a trade show and he told me about it. It’s 50 percent off. Call onx and they will verify everything and take care of ya!
