Re: Barometric pressure drop...
I am not a doctor, but I think the human body can tell you a lot about the weather. Like I said pressure affects me, I wish it didn't. But I also usually know when cold damp weather is coming because the joints start aching. I teach woodshop in middle school and I've noticed weather changes and kids behavior also. When it's been cold, or rainy and damp out then suddenly a sunny day pops up the kids become more hyper and jittery. The opposite happens when it's been nice out and turns cold and damp. Even when it's first period and still dark out the kids are already more awake and alert than normal on a warm sunny day. Like I said I'm not a doctor or a biologist, but I've noticed it many times. I'm sure across the animal species they notice weather changes hours before they happen. If I was a deer and my joints started aching I would move early to feed knowing weather is coming. I also might move because laying around is uncomfortable.
My opinion is animals know more about the natural world for three reasons. 1. Survival and natural instincts 2. They live out there unlike us so they notice things we might not pick up on. 3. Their development from birth to maturity happens more rapidly than ours. By the time a deer dies of old age, a human is still in a very young developmental stage. An 80 year old human acts very differently than a ten year old, just like a six year old buck acts very differently than a 1 1/2 year old buck.

Re: Barometric pressure drop...
This is a really interesting discussion! I just read an article by a QDMA researcher and it basically said a lot of the things being said here.
“First, with the exception of ultrasonic frequencies, a deer’s hearing ability is very similar to ours – at least in the general range of sounds we both can hear. However, the size, shape and maneuverability of their ears allow deer to pinpoint sounds quicker and better than humans.”
“Finally, while a deer’s overall hearing ability is not much different than ours, it is far more”in-tune” with its surroundings because their survival depends on the use of their senses to detect potential predators far enough in advance to escape unharmed. Just think about it, if your life depended on correctly identifying every sound in your environment, wouldn’t your ears be far more “in-tune” with your surroundings?”

Re: Barometric pressure drop...
I think about it like this. A blind individual tunes into their hearing more than a person that can see. Just like when you lay down for bed and hear the sink dripping that you didn't hear before. You tuned into your hearing without the other distractions. When I'm hunting I feel like I can hear better because I'm trying to tune into my surroundings better than normal daily life.
We also confirm sounds with sight just like deer, hear a noise you naturally look to confirm what you heard.
