Congrats, nice buck! Can you tell us anything about the shot internally? One lung? Liver?

Yes, You can kind of see the small entrance shot mid body ,behind the shoulder in my pic. It clipped lung, but it angled back through the liver and exited through the intestines. You can see part of the intestines hanging out of him in the EXIT pic, which was low and back.

Again, the shot was quartering to more than I thought when I took the shot. I was thinking it would exit liver.... I WAS WRONG.

If you click on the pictures, it will ENLARGE them for ya so you can see the shots better.

I am not proud of the exit. The entrance was very good though.

Did you notice if you hit stomach? That'll bleed a deer out faster than a guy realizes. Glad you found him

Congrats, that's a dandy buck! Thanks for sharing your experience and results with us. Your attention to all the little details of how your buck reacted after the hit as well as the reaction of the other buck were critical. Any details like these observed immediately at the time of the shot and directly after can be very important pieces of the puzzle and can be absolutely critical in recovering an animal. Very nicely done!

Whenever I ask guys about tracking up a deer. IF they tell me, I hit them behind the shoulder and I have guts on my arrow, you know its a multi organ hit. Typically, those deer dont go far with the trifecta. LUNG LIVER GUTS.

That being said, I had one go 550yds this year on a GUT, LIVER, LUNG hit. There were stomach contents on the heart. Arrow entered last rib and exited under the arm pit on the opposite side. But I knew exactly where the arrow hit and knew the deer had to be dead.

My buddy hit one this year. He knew the shot was high. And the deer was completely broadside. We got on blood and tracked for about 150yds with no beds. I convinced him to back out. Thinking, it was a high one lung hit. Next morning, buck was laying 10ft from where we backed out the night before. The shot was HIGH and it was BACK. BUT deer was quartered away. Long slice in the lung and guts, deer never bedded died on the move.

The hardest part? Many people "think" they saw one thing when it reality, it was something totally different. So in the heat of the moment, what you saw was exactly what happened.
