I use a linemans belt, it make everything easier since you can use both hands.

Re: Run and gunning
If I'm 4 sticks up, belt and tree rope....just me. I believe most falls are between sticks to stand, always connected one way or another
Yesterdays common sense is no longer common

Just hanging on with one hand if no linesmans belt
Probably get two sticks up before using belt just wondering fastest way up

Re: Run and gunning
I always wear a linesman belt wjen setting up or taking dpwn a set since I had a cam buckle pop open on me, leading to a 24 ft fall. I don't necessarily use it if I'm just scooting up a prehung set but if I'm setting up or pulling out, always. Not safe having no free hand if something breaks. I've seen enough people, myself included get miraculously lucky falling out of trees, I have no interest in testing that luck again. That being said, I set up what I can get at safely from the ground or just above it. But once your feet are 6 to 10' off the ground the chances of injury start getting bigger for sure and i just feel more comfortable using the belt and two hands.

Re: Run and gunning
A linemans belt practically adds no time.
There are guys that don't use them...but I wanna hunt the next day..next week...next season.
The only time I'm not always connected to the tree is like you said, hanging the bottom 2 sticks. I'm a couple feet off the ground at that point. I then step down and grab my stand and other sticks and throw the linemans belt around the tree and get setup.
There's lots of guys that can tell you they wish they'd used a harness and not taken that fall..many are paralyzed and can't climb a tree ever again.
To each his own I guess.
I rather everyone use a harness and climbing system than take good field pics (haha)

Re: Run and gunning
Once you get used to it...A linemens belt will help you set-up faster and with less effort. IMO
And most definitely safer!
