8mm static rope is all you need. I ordered 100 feet on eBay for $40 which was the cheapest I could find however I waited a month for it from China. It works fairly well and is as quiet as you'll get however it doesn't tighten to the tree quite as well as the straps do. 100 feet was enough to do all 4 sticks, both top and bottom of stand and I made a lifeline and lineman's rope out of the rest.

Dogs have many friends because they wag their tails, not their tongues.

Anyone know where i can get rope straps instead of regular straps for sticks i see alot of guys going to this ?
Looks alot faster hanging sticks too
Thnks

You can get 8mm static cord from REI, they only have bright colors in stock so I dyed mine black. A strap is quicker then using rope. Reason people switch to the rope is weight savings and the rope won't make any noise if it bangs against something.

Look into using an aider, they are just a step made out of tubular webbing that add a step to your stick. Diysportman has a good video on how to make them. I can get 20 feet with 3 sticks using a double aider on the first stick and a single on the 2nd and 3rd.

X10 in this one. Carry less that will enable you to do more. 3 or 4 sticks max. with aiders IF you need to get higher. Also consider a saddle for way less weight and far more versatility. Rope mod on the sticks is definitely worth it.
Tips? Just go do it. Practice and personal experience are far greater than anything you will get through reading.
