Do deer eat pumpkins?
A old man I know who runs a farmers market stand asked me if I wanted his pumpkins he didn't sell for Halloween. Said he's got atleast a truck load, I don't know what the heck to do with em, I said ya just cause u could tell he didn't wanna fool with them. Not trying to operate a massive bait pile here, just curious if I dumped in a field if they would eat em? Also would I need to bust em

They eat them and no you don’t need to bust them but probably wouldn’t hurt. Buddy of mine threw some old pumpkins out in his grove and subsequently had a pumpkin vine growing in his food plot (couple hundred yards away) the next year. They only way he can figure it got there is a deer pooped a seed out and it grew

Yes deer will eat pumpkins.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Do deer eat pumpkins?
Thanks guys! My concern now is turning this guys property into Charlie Browns pumpkin patch. Thank u 4 mentioning that LD. I don't know if our region can grow pumpkins or not but I'm gonna call the landowner and let him no what I'm up 2 and see if its ok. I had a major disaster 6 or 7 years ago, I had a killer property but on one side of the fence there was a farm house 100 yards away in the open and deer wouldn't come out until right at dark. I got the brilliant idea to plant Chinese bamboo on fence line for security purposes. In 2 years time that stuff covered the entire property even the neighbors.

Yep. Although my buddy seems to get better responses from deer after a frost. Still fun to watch deer stomp pumpkins in front of you

Re: Do deer eat pumpkins?
A few years ago right before Halloween my ex's family gave us a bunch of pumpkins for some reason I can't remember. She put some out on the porch and told me to get rid of the rest. So I did what I thought would be best. I took them out and shot them into pieces. The next week I'm cutting through my little range to go hunting and there were deer tracks all around what was left of the pumpkins. I never thought a deer would eat them but apparently they do.

Re: Do deer eat pumpkins?
Absolutely. Here in the Northeast, local farmstand put electric fence around the patch to keep deer out. They kick them and break them ...eat part of it and basically ruin the pumpkin.

Yup that's Peter, and he's missing this year. The other guy is Gordy, he's still around.
