Great video Dan, at a very relatable time for me after missing one Saturday morning. I got down on myself but this was a good little pick me up and reminded me that i still did alot of things right to get me in that situation, even though i didnt seal the deal.

Great video. Man you have more cajones than I climbing dead trees in wind like that. I'll hunt a dead one until the bark starts going, then I ain't touching it.

Relatable setup, we have a lot of clearcuts where they leave seed oaks every 50 yards or so. Skylit is the only way you can setup in these things. I used to hunt the edges, but since seeing you hunt these wide open trees in swamps I have been going right into these things and suprisingly the deer aren't picking me out as often as I thought. I am defintely a lot more careful about my movement up in the tree and do wear my camo.

Thanks Dan for sharing your realistic hunting experiences. I too missed a big buck last week, and although disappointed thatI didn't seal the deal, I was surprisingly kind of excited...because I was able to get eyes on him and get close enough to shoot and he had no idea I was there(until i shot of course).

I kept thinking of your saying of bumping deer, "I gotta get eyes on him to kill him."

Good stuff. It is a lot easier for an old salty hunter to put a miss behind you, than it is for a rookie to miss one and put it behind him. I used to to get pretty bummed when I missed one. Now I just shrug it off. I think the knowledge that you can get on another one helps immensely.

One question, The big cleaned out area the deer had done, what is it?
A few times over the years I have seen an area similar, 10 -20 foot diameter just beat down full of tracks.
I never have figured out what the deer where doing to make such a mess.
