As soon as you get here go to Walmart and buy an Iowa Sportsmans Atlas, that'll show you all you need to know. Some really cool fishing on the river but that part of Iowa isn't a "hot spot" of whitetail activity. That being said, a little work will get you on big big deer.
Welcome to Iowa. I'm down by Iowa City.

I looked on the Iowa dnr. And there is about 15 public units with thin 30 miles of me. From 400 to 3 acr tracts to hunt. So there is a lot of land to hunt.

Sucks to be you Your a lucky guy.
If I lived in Iowa I would be doing a whole lot of traveling around the state exploring. Don't just focus around your home area. Lot's of incredible public out there. As a non-resident I only scouted/hunted an extremely small percentage of it last year in one zone but the possibilities are endless especially if you spread your wings a little.

The iowa dnr website has a map of done public areas as well but the atlas is great. There are definitely some public areas better than others but all of them should hold good deer at some point in the season although it may be when they're passing through

You're in the right area to get on some good deer. I am from Nw Iowa and the deer quality up here is nowhere near what it is down that way. I have a buddy that hunts south of Des Moines and there are some brutes down there. If you're not afraid of putting in a little windshield time, I'd venture southeast.
Hunt aggressively, not recklessly.
