It's early season and I've located a bachelor group of bucks.... the season is still a few weeks away but you know that these bucks are frequenting a certain area that lends itself to an observation stand. Do you go in now and see where the bucks are coming from (i.e. Bedding) or do you wait till closer to the season and then move in. I'm thinking the former rather than the latter.
On top of that, there aren't too many threads on observation stands. Give me your thoughts on how to use them and if they have produced bucks in the early season.

Depending on when your season starts, the patterns you may see today might not apply by the opener.
Even here in Kentucky with our opener Sept. 2nd, if the beans begin to brown a little, it's game over on the summer pattern.

Re: Let's talk observation stands
Well, in the situation that I proposed I'm doing this with the understanding that the pattern will definitely change. Not because of any crops (there are none), but because of mast crops. The reason for the observation sit would be not to determine if they are coming into the field but only to determine where they are coming from. This would be important intel as far as bedding is concerned. In other words, I'm not sure the bedding in this area changes that much, but I haven't put boots on the ground to find exactly where the bedding is. Iif I do this sit, it could give me that information and I could then set up near where topography would tell me they should be.

When is your opener? If it is October 1st, you have 6-7 weeks, I would just go find their bedding area.
