I'm still debating.... is Iowa really THAT good? I mean, $700 for a deer tag is crazy...

I bought another point. Sitting on 4 pts. I could have drawn but not in the cards this year with other plans. Next year for sure.

Depends how much work you want to put into it. If you are willing to put in a bunch of work you should find some success. If you expect to just show up and kill a big buck it's probably not gonna happen. I know plenty of guys that have done that and failed miserably. There aren't B&C bucks hiding behind every tree like so many think. You will still put in a ton of work to kill a nice buck just like anywhere else.

Its $850+ just for a deer tag including all the points needed in most units....easily over $1,000 with some gas and food and just tent camping.

That's what you said last year too!
Good luck to everyone in the draw.

Sure Iowa is pretty good. Many States are pretty good. I believe the fact you can't just go hunt, is huge when talking about the attraction to Iowa. When .22 ammo was almost impossible to get every one wanted it, and paid up for it. Ruger came out with the Mark 4. You can't find them anywhere. Same thing. We always desire what we can't get. Plus, as you go through the journey of life planning and wanting, is more fun than actually having.
I believe my first deer license in Iowa cost $5.00. That was back in the 60s. Buck only for just a few days. There were very few deer in Iowa. I used to go to Wisconsin and Minnesota where there were some deer. There were very few turkeys in Iowa. I believe Iowa traded Missouri for turkeys and they got some pheasants. Now Iowa has very few pheasants and lots of turkeys.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Iowa NR deer application
Bought my 3rd point. I was there this spring (2017) to scout for a long weekend. I will be back next spring for a few more days, and then hoping to draw a tag for fall 2018. Big bucks beware (I hope).

Right... I guess what I'm curious about is I put a ton of work in to hunting cheap(er) states like Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana... is Iowa really that much better than those states, all amounts of work/scouting, etc being equal.
