Jumped a big buck now what?
I'm actually in the field right now. I just jumped possible the largest buck I've ever seen hunting. I don't think he scented me or knew what I was. I'm on a point adjacent to another point. I expected a bed further in on another point. I was trying to cross over to this point and looking and he jumped up, stopped for a second and then trotted off. I was perfectly still. Do I wait here and hope he returns or try to pick out where he went and move. I'm totally blind in this area. He was at 30 yards and my bow was strapped to my pack. Even if I would have had it in hand I couldn't have drawn back and shot.
Exciting and very disappointing at the same time. He was a very heavy 8 or 10 and very big body. Definitely a mature buck. Gah

You could try a bump & dump. Find his bed and set-up on it. If he wasn't too spooked and only heard you, he may come back.

THAts what I'm thinking...although there are two or three other points that look good he could have gone too. When he jumped up and stopped and looked straight forward. I didn't move and watched him trot off

You bumped him- now dump him. Keep an eye out for him to be sneaking around to one of those other points! Good luck!!!

Set up down wind of his bed, he will likewly scent check it if/when he returns. Might be today yet, might be in the morning, might not... But I would set up just down wind of the bed.

Re: Jumped a big buck now what?
Welp he didn't show. I heard something in the thick stuff and heard some limbs snap. Doubt it was a squirrel. Then at one point the thermals drifted to the bed so not sure if he smelled me and left out or what
Really bums me out but I came close. I'm definitely making progress and narrowed down hundreds and hundreds of acres to one little area. I've came close a few times but on smaller deer and everyone but one has been a blind sit. Definitely motivation to hit the scouting hard next year. I'm gonna go after him too. I have 9 days left so maybe I can get a legit shot at him.

That's a bummer! But nothing ventured nothing gained.
You know where he's hanging out now.

Yeah..I was kind of disappointed he didn't show but kinda figured he wouldn't. But yeah I have intel for next year. I think I'll set some cameras out too. I'm still hoping I'll get on him since we have 9 days left. I'll have some dreams about him for sure tho lol

I'm pretty sure he knew what you were. We like to think that a buck doesn't know what we are, but they do. That is why they bust out.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I would definitely try to get in there for another sit before the seasons over. Maybe sit the adjacent point? Or an area that gives you good visibility to movement of those points. You have nothing to loose with 9 days left.
