Will your kids be better hunters than you?

Unread postby oldrank » Wed Aug 24, 2016 11:58 am

I know we have talked about this in threads here n there. I was thinking a minute ago when I did a little entry in my journal. Will our kids grow to be better hunters than us? With all the info and knowledge on here I feel both of my boys have such a huge jump in the game. I feel the same about the younger guys on here.

I never push hunting on my kids. Its up to them if they want to hunt or not. When they do go I try to teach them as much as I can. If they take to it it will be awesome to watch them.

I would say yes. You teach them everything you know then they build on that has they get older. That's if they make it their passion in life.

I will say yes also. Already teach my 9 year old the thought process of bed hunting an beast tactics. They will have a huge advantage over me finding this site at 30 it will be fun to watch them if they decide to get that serious with deer hunting.

I was a good college baseball player. Does that mean my kids will be? Possibly. It depends on the kids. I think we can influence them but ultimately they have to want it.

They should have the tools but there is also instinct and drive. You can't teach those two things.

Also, failure can be a driving force. Most of us found the beast looking for knowledge to overcome failures. I did. Hopefully I become knowledgeable enough to pass something on.

I do know this though. My oldest will be 5 in October and that boy wants to be in the woods. He loves it. We ride roads and watch does. Eat lots of candy and caprisuns. My middle son will not miss an opportunity to be on the boat. He will fish with determination while other kids are playing with bait. They are all different but so much fun.

Enjoy, teach, and hopefully they will be beasts. If not they are still awesome.

They will have access to light years more knowledge than I ever had, whether or not they have the drive will be up to them. That is just something you can't teach and it comes from within.

It's quite possible..like others have said if they are into it and if they are eager to learn. I had absolutely no idea about buck tendencies as a kid and when I started hunting, none. My 3 year daughter old looks out the window and sees any type of transition line and tells me that's where the bucks are, I'll say ohh ya and she says yep, on the edges and by the islands..that's more knowledge than I had the first time I had a weapon in my hands in the woods.

Very possible. It's all about desire

It all depends on how much they are driven to hunt.

My thoughts are the same. It boils down to if they are very driven and ambitious to do this.

No.

I have daughters, very few if any females have the desire/motivation to put in all the work that it takes. That's not a bad thing either. At least they will respect hunting and the outdoors and hopefully raise another generation of buck slayers.

We will see. I will be happy to teach them what I know. It takes a certain personality type to fixate on hunting like I know I do. If they understand and love mother nature, that would be enough.
