Milkweed Alternative

From what I'm reading Milkweed is in a lot of you guys pack. Any alternatives y'all have found that is just as good?

What about cottonballs, and pulling off a tiny tiny amount like a seed head and letting it go? The thermals have me curious and I'm looking for something easy but works. Anybody with any experience?

I've used cattail and dandelions fuzz before. They work OK.

Yes I've used thistle & milkweed. They both work equally as well.

Hard to beat milkweed good for the environment is an added bonus. Thistle is considered a noxious weed. I used to get a penny a piece for spading out thistles in cattle pastures back in the early 60s. Farmers hated the weeds.

We have some kind of thistle that grows over 6ft and can take over areas and they let off a million seeds. I have seen deer move and bed in it. It also has pickers on it. Never thought to get windcheckers off it. Milkweed is plentyful here.

I picked some thistle off our farm yesterday and been playing with it and cottonballs. I haven't texted extensively side by side just a quick look and they don't seem to fly much differently. The cottonball might be a little heavier and fly different depending on how much you pull off, but I'm going to keep playing with it and figure out how much they differ.

Do mother nature a favor and don't spread thistle seed around or other nuisance invasive plants. Maybe you can kill the seed somehow though, don't know. Bake it first?

I bet cattails work fairly well. Cottonwood fluffies work well too.

If I'm not mistaken the seed is the brown pod on the bottom, which is actually hampers the ability of the floater. I knock off all the seeds on both thistle & milkweed while loading into my icebreaker canister.
