Openings in the timber

Unread postby TNstalker » Thu Apr 07, 2016 2:30 pm

I know this has been discussed on here but with openings in the timber is the opening clear or can it have shorter trees lower in the canopy an cause the vacuume effect or both?

In my experience it does not have to be a clear opening to cause swirling. Any pocket of higher or lower density than the main timber is going to affect wind speed and create swirling. I have seen pockets of pine trees in an open timber area cause the same swirling problem. I think it is more of a friction wind speed issue than a thermal issue.

Ok. Find I high spot with a big boy using it an forgot to account for the openings when picking a tree so had to go back. So I was just curious.

When setting up to shoot into a more open area in the woods is it better to set up right on the edge near the opening or further in? If further in about how much until you notice more stable wind behavior?
If it bleeds, we can kill it . . . .
