Of youth days and first deer....

Unread postby UPbowhunter » Sun Nov 21, 2010 8:04 am

My oldest son was able to get a shot at his first deer today. Double lung shot, short track! Very proud of him, he joined our ranks today. There was a whole story behind this deer but I am run down now and will post complete story latter.[img]http://s598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/yooper_bucket/?action=view&current=flypics007-1.jpg[img][/img]http://s598.photobucket.com/albums/tt67/yooper_bucket/?action=view&current=flypics008.jpg[/img]

Thanks Carol for cleaning up pics! Saturday was our youth day here in Jersey. We were blessed when a good buddy of mine opened up his camp and property to us for my sons first deer hunt. My other freind was gratious enough to offer to film it as well as set up some traps on the property to show us how to set up on different critters with different sets. (Tony and I took our trapping course here this fall so we could trap and spend more time together this winter.) We set up the stands and shot his slug gun last weekend in preperation of this great day. With all preps made we made our way to camp the afternoon before. While at camp sitting on porch we watched 30 deer eating and chasing in the feilds at camp. Tony said he wanted to shoot the first deer that came in even though we seen a 140 inch 10 pointer within 150 yards of his stand! With the luzury of sleeping on the property we would be hunting, we were able to sleep in and get a good breakfast prior to the morning hunt. After the 200 yard walk in to the stands we were set to sit til lunch time. Within 25 minutes a nice mature doe showed up walking and checking scrapes in the strip of woods where to sit in this great morning. As she worked towards us she made it to within 36 yards camera man gave the thumbs up and Tony made his shot with all the coaching he could take wispering in his ear. At the shot she made a stalion kick, the sign of a great shot! As she ran off I couldn't help but think of all the great hunters in our family before him and wish they all could be with us that very minute, some were watchng from the skys, I know but, man he had finally joined our ranks! Shortly after the shot we had deer all around us, includeing a nice young 8 pointer that came within 12 yards of our stands. We were able to see and hear deer do alot of things that took me years to be part of, grunts, bleats sparing, and chasing! Tony looked around and mentioned how he had shot his first turkey a jake this spring just a few yards from his first deer! After a short track we found his first deer, a fine mature doe! Great job Tony and welcome to the ranks. Thank you to all of you guys that have commented to our greatest day afeild.
