A friend shot a doe yesterday at 5pm. Found it at 10 am today. 17 hours later. Coyotes got into it some in the front shoulder by the hit. Is that too long to keep some meat? Backstraps and shoulders? I didn't know what to tell him.

What's the temp outside... I would say it's fine unless it's above 60ish degrees

If the meat looks a little green pitch it.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: How long to salvage meat?
Elk hunting during the rut you deal with much warmer temps than now. I've seen bulls left overnight where it only got down to 65 degrees. Then weren't found until noon. Elk hides are terrible for holding in heat.
Most of the time the meat was still good. The few times we had problems it was just a few cuts that we had to through out.
Like said above look for green. Smell for spoilage.
