Re: Snow tracking during gun seasons
I still drive and look for good tracks because there is only so much time I'm willing to sacrifice walking into spots unless I know someone is home.
I have preferred road crossings I check daily and if going the one direction I like and wind is good I can usually cut them off and catch up to track knowing where the buck is heading. Magic calls this cheating but he likes doing things the hard way. lol.

Re: Snow tracking during gun seasons
I covered a little over 5 miles this afternoon. There must have been some hunting pressure here since opening day as I didn't find any fresh deer sign until I was about 1.5 miles in from the road. Wish I could say that I got on the track of a mature buck but no such luck. Every track I checked out seemed to be does traveling with fawns and every lone set of tracks appeared to be inmature bucks or lone does. I did kick up a few bedded deer but didn't see any horn.
Few pics I took today.
Deer are digging thru the snow eating this stuff. Not sure what it is but they are feeding hard on it. Any guesses?
Found this ground blind almost 2 miles in. Somebody put some work into this.
Headed to a different area tomorrow and might even do some exploring in Nicolet National Forest if I don't find anything on state land.

Did you pick any
of the stuff they were eating and smell it? It almost looks like young cedar trees. But I don't really know much about plants.
Good luck tomorrow!!

Re: Snow tracking during gun seasons
That had to be a lot of fun Dewey, especially after all the tree time you had this year. Good to stretch the legs.
