11/22 buck had a full belly of corn and some browse. Not surprising because there was a private land corn field not picked yet a few hundred yards away and a foot of snow on the ground.

I've also found whole acorns in the stomach of deer also. Guess they swallow them whole so they'll have sumthn solid when they chew their cud. Really idk...any thoughts?

As suspected my bucks stomach shot on 12/12 was full of corn, grain, a lot of mash couldn't tell. I shot my buck in a red oak chunk, but couldn't identify 1 acorn, just goes to show how powerful feed piles are up here. His stomach was plump full when I shot him at 4:15 pm.

The New Years Day buck I killed in a Louisiana swamp had fed mostly (90%) on Nutall acorns, locally known as stripped oaks, and some green browse.

My brother's 12/24/15 muzzleloader buck was killed in the late morning with a packed stomach of alfalfa with a little corn. There was a good tall alfalfa field nearby but all the nearby corn fields were chisel plowed, must have picked up some around the edges. No snow yet.

My 1/2/16 muzzleloader buck was killed in the late morning with a stomach full of browse. No ag. material at all. I need to get better at telling just what the browse was. I saw they were feeding on basswood and maple shoots in the timber....There is a lot of browse in the area, plenty of ag fields too but we had 8" of crusty snow covering them and most were chisel plowed so the browse was preferred.

interesting how much it varies only a few miles apart.

Bump

My plan every year is to check the stomach for current preferred food but never do. Just reminding myself and all the other killers.
