Scent control

Unread postby slowpoke69 » Sat Aug 08, 2015 1:02 pm

My work just picked up a new big launch project. That means more hours...just in time for deer season. During bow season I should be ok. I can leave from work straight to the woods. I work in a factory so lots of stinky smells to get on my skin and hair. We don't have showers. What can I do to help control the stink? I was thinking the scent wipes or a travel size container of soap and just washing my hands, arms, face and spray my hair with scent-a-way.

I won't have time to drive home then to the woods either. 30 min home then another 45 to the woods. Not gonna happen. Just trying to get some other ideas or if this would be enough. Yes I also know to play the wind, but there's always that one that wants to circle around.

I would search this site on the topic of scent control. Topic has been beat with a stick.

Just keep the wind in your favor and hunt fresh spots.

X2

Do some research. Lots of other great old non-scent control threads to read while you are at it as well.

Isn't that overkill? Nothing to smell when the Ozonics is running.

Not much you can do about deer that circle downwind. What I do is constantly check air currents with milkweed so if one does get downwind I know exactly where my scent stream will be picked up so I can shoot before. Another thing you can do is back up to a natural barrier to prevent deer from even getting downwind. I like having my back to water if possible.

I think even a hardcore scent control guy will say you can't do much without showering first. I wouldn't worry about it. Wipes if they make you feel like you tried but I wouldn't bother. If you know you stink, hunt the wind accordingly and hunt stress free not worrying about it. This topic seems to come up a lot. As mentioned there are some old post you may be able to check out.

Just keep the wind in your face, watch your access, and keep hitting new spots... I have arrowed a lot of big bucks in my dirty work uniform after work.

Just hunt smart don't cross the buck your huntings trail. Don't setup or enter the stand with your wind blowing to the buck or his trail. There's no reason to worry about smells if your hunting smart. There's no reason to believe in all the scent gimmicks I at one point believed in this also used to wash everything in baking soda but that buck will smell you either way.
