Your biggest buck from a treestand???
Wondering for those of you who have successfully hunted mature whitetails was the best buck you ever got taken the 1st time you sat the tree you shot him out of? or was it after multiple sits in that tree?

I have never shot a buck over 3.5 year old, but the biggest buck I did shoot was the first sit in that tree and 20 minutes into the sit

After multiple times in the tree, but I was having a truck come get me at dark so as not to leave any ground scent in the area the deer were you using or blow them out of the field.

Every buck I have mounted was shot first time in. The two heaviest were shot from the ground.

Re: Your biggest buck from a treestand???
Every buck I have shot was the first time I ever hunted a particular tree for that particular season. Mostly because I rarely hunt the same tree twice in a season. I believe in the element of surprise and the first time you hunt a certain tree is your best chance to kill a deer.
I do have a few trees with multiple kills over the years. I do not hunt those stands until certain times of the season like the rut and only when the wind is absolutely perfect.

Absolutely believe that is a hunters single best chance in any location. That is why hunting beast style and staying mobile is so effective throughout the season.

Re: Your biggest buck from a treestand???
Last year I spent most of my time in IA. When I got back to WI, I had a day to hunt before the vacation ended. I hunted out of a tree that I never had before with my climber. Not two hours into the hunt I had an arrow in a 5 1/2 yr old buck. He did look at me, as he was making his way towards my stand, but the wind was right and I think the element of surprise led to his death. Had this location been a pre-set, over hunted location, I dont think he'd have been fooled.

Two P&Y buck's from the same tree the last two season's (08/09).
100 yard's from farmhouse, 60 yard's from nearest outbuilding that is used daily.
Second hunt from that pre/set both season's.
12/16/08.
10/21/09.

Re: Your biggest buck from a treestand???
Ive only killed one buck (happened this year!) It was the 1st ever sit in an urban area.
Big bucks that Ive seen were mainly 1st sit on pre hung stands except 1 time of multiple sits during the rut.

Re: Your biggest buck from a treestand???
My 1st sits have been by far my most productive sits on average. My biggest buck though was taken on my 2nd sit which was back to back evening hunts. Last years buck that I screwed up on was on my 1st sit In that tree. The next 4 times I saw this same buck were as follows...
2nd sighting- 1st sit In this tree (had him at 18 yards, didn't feel right In shooting. Something didn't feel right)
3rd sighting- 3rd sit In this tree (had him at 10 yards for 10 minutes, got to dark)
4th sighting- 4th sit In this tree (had him at 12 yards, very small opening for shot and couldn't get my recurve drawed back In time)
5th sighting- 2nd sit In this tree (had him at 30 yards, too far away)

Bow, both 22 yard's.
That's gross score, not net. I don't fish.

I could care less If you fish or not. I was curious on the yardage whether they were 100 yard gun kills or close bow kills. You answered my question with your 22 yard shots. Nice Info to know.Zap wrote:Schultzy wrote:Bow kills or gun kills?Zap wrote:Two P&Y buck's from the same tree the last two season's (08/09).
