Newbie question

Unread postby KillYourTV » Tue Nov 04, 2014 5:44 am

I have a lot of deer beds on my property (Ive found about 7-8/30 acres) and a fair amount of OLD buck rubs, but nothing new. I see does, but never any bucks. Any idea what's going on?

Hang out down wind of those beds over the next 10 days.

Is there a best time of day? Weather here in upstate NY has been real weird... lots of wind, but unseasonably warm with no snow.

It's rut, anytime can be "the" time.

It sounds like you have an ideal spot for this time of year. I'm guessing you're on preferred doe bedding and the bucks tend to check it and cruise it during the rut (now) every year which is maybe why you have all the rubs but no buck sightings earlier in the season. I'd be spending a lot of time there now because I assure you if you have that many does bedding there the bucks know it and will also be spending some time there.

I hunt a farm like this...no bucks bed on it but rubs all over. I just watched a doe chase get buck fawn off so I figured she was close to estrous...I then saw 6 bucks (none of which I have summer photos of) over my next 2 sits...your in s good place none of my rubs are opened but I am thinking they will soon

All the rubs on my property look to be at least a year or two old... nothing fresh this year.
