New York gets #1! At least we are the best at something, that and taxes...

I would not have expected Wisconsin to be on the list.

I would take NY all day every day over this mudhole.

Not sure I understand how they ranked the states. Michigan was at bottom of list at number 10, yet the yearling harvest and percentage of 3.5yr olds was worse than NY. The last line in the Michigan description also says they earned the number 2 spot?

In fact, only 17% of the bucks harvested in Michigan in 2013 were three and a half years old or older (third lowest nationally). The prospect of enduring adverse conditions and a large amount of competition for a relatively small chance at mature buck earns Michigan a second place ranking.

I am a little surprised to see us listed as number 1. I really don't put much stock into that article though...

I didn't write the article.. :snooty: I can't really follow the author's evaluation logic. Statistically speaking, MI, PA, and NY are clearly 3 of the worst though.

Yeah, but Terry- you know what the #1 ranking means..., as NYers, we should be the best hunters!

This article only contains Northern states. So to me the author has not really completed his research.

If you follow this link(which author used for some of his data) you will see how southern states compare. Unfortunately for you Florida hunters, your state agency didn't provide any data. This tells me they might not track it and that doesnt say much for their view of the resource.

Check out the top 5 states in the US for producing highest percentage of 3.5+yr in the harvest. Holy cow those southern states are rocking!
