Traveled to northern KY this weekend to do a little bow hunting. Saturday night a nice 8 point came through chasing a doe. Went through my shooting lane pretty fast and couldn't get a shot. As he ran her down the field edge he must have lost her so he came back. I stopped him with a grunt made the shot and he ran over the hill. I got all of it on film but didn't hear him crash. I decided to leave him all night. On the walk out I saw my red lighted knock shinning in the dark. When I got to it, no deer, only about 8" of my arrow attached to it. The next morning 5 of us tracked him for about 200 yards. He had layed down twice and after that the blood had stopped. No deer. This makes the 3rd deer I have lost to shot placement. Needless to say "Bow Sadness."

How far was that?
Do you broadhead tune out to that distance and further?
How much KE do you have?
People can get all fussy about broadheads but I love Grim Reapers. Maybe time to try something different.

Re: Bow Sadness...
I cant even see the deer in the vid Jay, probably better on your end. I saw the lighted nock and then your comment that you dont know where you hit it. Im sure the shot wasnt as far as it looked in the video, those cameras have a way of making it look a long ways. However if you cant see where a lighted nock hits, something isnt right. No doubt if you hit one perfect he will be down inside 100yds, but tracking for 200yds isnt uncommon. Keep your head up and maybe shorten your max shooting distance by 10yds and see how it goes. Everybody has to set their own comfort zone, but your also having some bad luck it sounds like. Who knows, somebody could have found your deer and took it.

The shot was about 30 yards. When I practice I practice with G5's and that's what I hunt with. They fly great and the bow is tuned as it should be. I've killed deer with Grim Reapers before but got away from them and started shooting G5's. I think I just hit the deer to far forward. and didn't get a pass through. Hopefully the land owner will find him. I just hate not recovering a deer.

Re: Bow Sadness...
A couple of observations... 1st, everyone looses a deer or two or they don't shoot many deer.
2nd, I don't have sound at work, but I think I read that you "stopped" him? Stopping a deer is putting him on alert and getting him to concentrate on the area the sound came from. He likely jumped the string... The farther the shot, the more likely he was alert from you stopping him and heard the shot and was already tense. 3rd, you may have gotten a pass thru and a much better blood trail if it was shot with a smaller fixed head broad head...
Don't beat your self up over loosing deer, but it is important to realize that if your loosing deer something in your set up or procedure is failing, and you need to analyze what your doing that is causing the losses, or if there is anything you can do to prevent them... Its also important to analyze the successes, and see what is working.
