Beast hunting ALMOST worked for me tonight!
Tonight's hunt almost worked out perfectly! Last night I saw a good buck come from the bedding area right at dark but moved though an area that was free of trees. So tonight I sat on the ground closer to the bedding. The wind was the same as yesterday and he did the same thing he did last night, and this time I was sitting there waiting for him but it didn't quite work out. Tonight there was a small buck that was with him. It was kind of windy and couldn't really hear them coming, and all of a sudden, out pops a little buck 5 yards away from me upwind. I was really counting on being able to see them coming from more than 5 yards away. I watched him for a few seconds then started to kneel down so he wouldn't see me and wouldn't you know it, he saw me! As I was kneeling down he picked his head up and caught my movement. The small buck started blowing then ran off.
Now at this point I didn't even realize the big buck was even with him. After the small buck was gone I could hear the steps of another deer very close by. I tried really hard to look through the grass to see a deer, and I could make out a pretty nice rack through the grass. I could see him moving his head around looking. Seemed like he wasn't really sure what was going on, like he wasn't really sure what the other buck ran from. He was definatly nervous. He turned around and started walking back to where he came from. Then I believe he circled downwind of the area to see if he could smell what was going on, but I never heard him blow and I never heard him run off so I don't know if he was able to get my scent or not. I think he was just nervous because that other buck took off.
So, do you guys think it would be worth hunting this buck again? Try again tomorrow? Or with him getting nervous like that might that be enough to send him to a different bedding area?

You did good.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

The big ones don't blow. They have a way of vanishing. Personally I would hunt somewhere else tomorrow. Even if he does come out it's gonna be later.. He has I'm sure smelled you were there.

Yeah my worry is that even if he didnt smell me tonight, he might smell that I was there when he goes in to bed in the morning. Just looking for peoples opinion on what to do with this situation. Im not really sure what to do

Sounds to me he wasn't quite sure what happened. Unless he went through the area later and picked up your scent you might be able get away with trying again tommorow if the wind is right.
Too bad the small buck was leading but that is usually how it goes. I hunted a few mature bucks that bedded with a young buck and seemed to use them as a sentry to tip them off to danger.
It's a tough decision. Sometimes an aggresive move can pay off.

If the wind is the same again tonight I would try one more time. He could be right back in there again where he has been the last two days. If he is a no show then leave that spot for a while.

I would try again too. What have you got to lose? It rained down here last night, not sure if it did by you. Same wind tonight, I'd be back in there.

I would definitely hit it again. Better now I think, than in a few weeks. You know where he is living, and you came that close. Maybe he didn't know what was up and he will make the same mistake twice. Usually doesn't happen but its worth a shot!!! Good luck.

X2 atleast if you go again you will have closure on the "What If" aspect of it. Has it been raining where you were hunting? That may help you too.

I would not go back. You could mess up your spot. They may be checking for fresh scent or trying to wind you. I would wait about three weeks and try it again.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

I agree if the conditions are the same try again maybe getting a liitle closer to where they came from if conditions allow. If nothing then move on. Good luck

I saw no deer tonight. I would have to believe he is gone. I have a few other spots scouted in the area so its time to hunt those and see if he's in one of thoee spots now
