Ode to Marsh Grass
Ode to Marsh Grass
Hunter
Oh how I hate you, you long stemmed witch
You slow me and trip me until I fall in the ditch
Today when I was crossing your great green expanse
You caused me to do many face plants
Marsh Grass
You are a whiner; it’s supposed to be hard
I want you to leave bruised, battered and scarred
I do not give up my bounty to those who will quit
I want to see if you have any grit
Hunter
I will never quit, because I am insane
I will keep going, my drive never wanes
I will ask God to burn you up into dust
He will do this, because He is just
Marsh Grass
God will not do this, because He has reason
My benefits to wildlife are always in season
You are a fool; you will never get your buck
You are more likely to be drowned in the muck
Hunter
I will get a buck, for I am a Hunting Beast
Beasts never quit, not in the least
I will kill one tomorrow, of that I am sure
For the disease I have there is only one cure
Marsh Grass
If you show up tomorrow I will make sweat
Sweat is not the least of my threats
I’ve been known to twist ankles and even tweak knees
I will trip you and trap you until you bleed
If you show up tomorrow you better bring luck
That is the only way you will ever get a buck
Hunter
You can sweat me and bleed me of that I don’t care
You see I have brass ones, there is much I can bear
You can twist my ankle and even tweak my knee
Neither of which will ever stop me
For I said a prayer and believe I will have luck
Tomorrow is the day I tag a slob buck
Hunter

lol that was entertaining. Can't wait till this January when I can scout and find my first buck bed in a public marsh!

Re: Ode to Marsh Grass
After recently dragging a buck a 1/2 mile through chest high marsh grass I can totally relate to this.

That's pretty cool. Is that what you're doing while you are waiting for the buck to come in? I'm not that creative myself, I'm usually just daydreaming.

I had a particularly hard hike in yesterday, it was hot and I had to make a large loop (1.5 miles) through the nasty stuff to avoid bedding areas. I ended up not bringing enough water, so on the walk out I was tired and thirsty and tripping every other step..............it really stinks when it borders timber, down timber seems to "hide" in the grass just waiting to trip a guy. The hike out was supposed to be easier, more of a direct shot................it wasn't. I'll be back at it this afternoon
