I used to hunt mostly private, farms around where I lived. Over the last 10 years I have transitioned to almost all public now, and most of what I now bring home is off of public. My first public land buck was in 2008.

I have to agree with Dan and Spy though that there isn't a good distinction just between private and public. I hunt some public spots now that get less pressure than the farms I hunted when I was a kid.

To me, the big distinction is hunting exclusive access properties versus non-exclusive access land. The vast majority of hunters that kill regularly kill giant bucks do it on big chunks of land they own or lease themselves, with no one else or maybe one or two other hunters allowed on it.

Compare that to a hunter that has to put up with more uncontrolled pressure on either public and private who might kill a big one every other year - he is someone I would me more inclined to listen to.

I have been invited to hunt exclusive access properties once or twice and there is a night and day difference between them and the reality of most hunters.
