South winds in Wisconsin?

Unread postby dreaming bucks » Tue Nov 20, 2012 4:23 am

Does anybody else think we have had abnormally lots of South winds in the past couple weeks? Am I wrong, or isn't the normal for this time of year North west winds? I might have to reconsider a couple of my permanent stand placements for next year if this keeps up.

I noticed that also because I have some great spots for south wind and usually don't get to hunt them this late in the year so I'm liking it.

You never know... Early season this year we got a lot of East winds which is a lot more rare than the South... You need to be able to deal with the cards your given... I have nothing against pre-sets but I always have a mobile system ready. Most of the time when I do put a pre-set stand out its in the only position available for that spot.
A lot of my hunting spots have 2 to 5 stand positions, some even more, I throw the mobile stand in the tree that best fits the wind of the day I hunt the spot.

I hear what you're saying Dan. I just hate setting up my mobile in the dark, not sure why, maybe I'm just not use to doing it yet. But I understand why you would want to stay mobile when it comes to this.... Maybe I will lean that way, and just stay mobile in that spot.

You could also put up more than one hang on... The thing about those permanent positions though is that if they become to easy to hunt, people have a tendency to over hunt them and ruin the spot. Especially if you share the hunting grounds, and stands with others.
