Look What we Found!

My buddy was mowing his grandmothers yard yesterday evening. In a small flower bed no bigger than a truck tire was this little fella :D

We didn't move it at all, and were very grateful that we didn't hit it with the mower. Of course I jokingly said "That would be some fine Rotisserie" which didn't get as many laughs as I thought it would.....blush...He finds fawns every year mowing, even on different properties. Luckily deer are not like birds or rabbits in abandoning their your when contact is made by humans. I am sure that fawn got the most intense tongue bath it will ever have in it's life...hehehehehe.

I was nervious about touching fawns but it seems with my limited experiances the does don't seem to mind.

Driving the truck last spring down a back road by the house seen a doe crossing the road with her new born. Doe made it a cross and the fawn bedded right in the middle of the road. We drove around it and parked 20 yards down the corner with my flashers going.....waited 5 minutes and that fawn would not move. With no camera (or cell phone) in the truck and about a mile from the house was mad I didn't have a camera. My boy was with me and he kept saying we just can't leave it in the road....he was right.

We went over and tried lightly moving it with my boot....fawn just stiffened up and slid across the road. Finally picked it up and carryed is 5 yards into the tree line off the road where the doe ran. The boy and I sat back in the truck and about 20 minutes later the doe came back and walked her fawn away. Pretty cool experiance for my son. I told him if the doe doesn't come back we could keep the fawn....he was dissapointed when we saw her sneaking back.

Very neat picture!!! This morning my brother's soon to be 4 year old son yelled "dad, there's a dead deer In front of the house"!!! My brother went running over to his son and sure enough there layed a deer. It was a fawn, still fairly wet yet and alive. My brother lives In a small woods, the fawn was laying about 40 yards In front of the house.
