Southern Man wrote:On the question who is a better hunter, I tend to think it would be about equal. To find, pattern, and get into a position to kill a buck of that quality is quite a feat. I don't think the process to do that would be any different for a bowhunter or a gun hunter. Down here gun hunters outnumber bowhunters. Early bow season seems to be a laid back time of year. When gun season rolls around, the pressure really changes the woods. That alone increases the difficulty of finding the buck and then knocking one down. Granted, the actual shot would be easier with a gun (for most people) but as far as a hunter goes, I'd say it was equal.

My feelings as well.

Getting within bow range of any buck more less a B&C is way more of a challenge than shooting one at 150 yards with a gun. Anobdy that kills 5 B&C with their bow certainly has my respect.

Definetly lots of factors. Say the gun guy tracked down and killed all ten with his gun in their beds. For sure goes to him then. Cant base it on numbers alone.

I personally don't think one is better than the other. There's too many variables surrounding the the two hunters. Area, tactics, shooting skills etc. The gun hunter it's not fair to assume he shooting 100 plus yards they all could of been within 40 yards for his shots etc. The bow hunter could of been in a great area(the 12 acre guy from the other thread) and got lucky. Regardless they both have to have skills to get into the right area of the B&C bucks and be able to put them down.
Getting in the right area and recognizing it is a skill in itself.

At one point of time I would of leaned towards it being equal in Wisconsin if a guy can get it done with a gun in 9 days vs a guy getting it done with a bow in a 4 month season, but now that guys get more time in the woods with a gun than I do with my bow (unless I dress up like a punkin ) its definatly slated towards the bow hunter being a better hunter. At least in my area, under my perspective.

What if the guy that used the gun killed all the bucks at under 20 yards in the deep woods and the guy using the bow shot them in a food plot at 40 yards?

X 33,333... the number of bucks she has killed is clearly representative of her hunting prowess.

Both great hunters but I would tip my hand in the traditional way for the lack of range and the fluid of movement needed at the shot not being able to hold the draw.
