Look at old abandoned houses or houses where the owners dont clean out the gutters.You see trees growing out of the rain gutters all the time.

I think it's just because they are young saplings.

I have seen trees grow in dead falls before. Just like in gutters as mentioned above. They also grow on large rocks as well and sides of cliffs.
